2024 American Presidential Election: A President for the Whole World

United States of America has perpetually been a symbol for freedom, wealth and of course contemporary liberal economy. Although its feature of being one of the most envied countries around the world remains untouched, numerous Americans would argue otherwise. Several enforcements have been implemented on the country since the whole world’s minds have been imprinted with the American Dream. With the upcoming 2024 American Presidential Election, Americans will make a critical decision to whether or not to keep the current Biden Administration.

However, the prospective candidates for the long-awaited election are still unknown to Americans and the whole world. The election is planned to take place on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024. It will mark the 60th year of the quadrennial presidential elections of the United States. It will also grant one of the candidates a seat at the White House. Most importantly, the outcomes of the elections has a potential to completely alter the internal and foreign policies of the United States of America. It can also be perceived as an election that will plausibly impact the flow of international conflicts, disputes, agreements, sanctions, relations and the community overall. The United States is currently a prominent state in conflicts such as the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and the armed conflict in Gaza. Additionally, since the tension in Chinese-American relations have come to an all-time rise, the elected president will hold the power to change or even deteriorate the situation.

The country has been experiencing constitutional changes in various states of the federal government. The infamous abortion ban has evidently been one of the most sensational and controversial implementation of this 4-year presidential period. It is crucial to note that the abortion bans do not align with president Biden’s policies, but is a result of independent initiatives of various states. The states that implemented a full ban include Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. The pro-life movement and its effects are intertwined with the upcoming election since the two political parties of the US advocate for different ideologies. Despite the fact that the President of the United States, Joe Biden, opted to go for a re-election following his undoubted success with his 2020 presidential campaign, Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson are currently the two opponents for the president run in the Democratic Party presidential primaries. According to statistics, there has not been an incident where the incumbent president could not gain nomination for an upcoming presidential election in the US since 1884.

The nomination process for the Democratic Party seems to be going in favor of president Biden. Being the oldest president in the entirety of the American history at 81, Joe Biden seems like an out-dated or ineffective solution for a plethora of Americans. On the other hand, the polls demonstrate that he is still the only candidate that has a tangible chance of being nominated by the Democrats. Joe Biden primarily backs up liberal actions in all aspects of life, is pro-choice and intends to suggest gun and health system reforms if elected by the citizens.

Furthermore, Cenk Uygur, a Turkish born American politician, aimed to become a presidential nominee until it was realized that Uygur could not meet the constitutional requirements under Article II, Section 1 of the US Constitution because he was not born in the American soil.

When it comes to the Republican competitors for the seat in the White House, the most prominent candidate seems to be Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States. Although he was famously beaten by his fellow candidate Joe Biden in 2020, he is anticipated to have a consequential impact to the outcomes of the election. It is conspicuous that a big deal of Americans want change and hope to find it in the administration that Trump promises to form. Nevertheless, Trump has faced some legal obstacles during the process. Donald Trump is being charged with several felonies. This has raised the question : “Will Trump be able to run for president?”. It seems to legal authorities and the constitution that he actually has no legal issues restricting him from running for the office on a federal basis. The US Constitution states that a candidate should be at least 35 years of age, a natural born citizen and have lived in the US for a minimum of 14 years. However, that is not all. Some officials believe that Trump is ineligible for the position under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the constitution for engaging in insurrection or rebellion. The reason for these beliefs is the allegations that Donald Trump took part in the Capitol riot on 6 January 2021. The riot was a response from the conservative citizens of the country to the presidency of Biden. Donald Trump made it extremely clear that he would take a serious stance against illegal immigration and is pro-life. He also recently made announcements that can be interpreted as transphobic. Donald Trump promised to abolish federal funding on “Day 1” for schools instilling what he called “transgender insanity” onto children in American school system. In one of his anouncements to the public he said: “And I can’t even believe I have to say it, but I do have to say it. I will keep men out of women’s sports.”, referring to transgender women competing in sports events dedicated to women. These public announcements have caused the LGBTQ+ community to feel threatened by their government. The other remaining candidate against Trump for Republican nomination is Nikki Haley, the former US ambassador to the United Nations (UN). She previously stated that she would not run against Trump. She said that she is pro-life but finds a federal abortion ban “unrealistic”. Haley is presently behind Trump in the most recent polls. If a Republican candidate is elected, the conservative policies such as the bans on abortion are likely to escalate. No matter the outcomes of this internationally monitored event, it is conspicuous that the election will bring a brand new era for Americans, immigrants and the international community. Now it is just a waiting game until the real event.
