Apple Launches iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus

On 2 September, Apple announced the debut of iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. The products will be available to pre-order on 15 September while the official release date is 22 September. So what are the features of the new iPhone?

iPhone 15 comes in Black, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Pink pastel color options and has a maximum capacity of 512GB. The phone is resistant to water with a maximum depth of 6 meters and a duration of 30 minutes. The device also comes with a USB-C charge cable and iOS 17. The pricing starts from $799 or $33.29 per month for 24 months.

Apple also tweaked the Dynamic Island to be much more smaller but capable by showcasing important alerts such as the next direction in the Maps app as a shortcut. The new iPhone also provides expanded safety features such as Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via Satellite in cases of emergency. The phones also contain the A16 chip that made its debut last year. New titanium sides, that are relatively lighter, are designed to replace the stainless steel sides that are available in previous models.

In addition to all these changes, social media has specifically focused on the shift from the iPhone charger port to a USB-C port. This is due to the fact this shift marks the termination of the Lightning charger that has been used for 11 years. The move from the Lightning connector to a USB-C is critical as the latter is a universal charging system, making it easier to charge the phone.

The change in chargers is expected to make an appearance in the following year since the European Union voted to approve legislation to require phones, tablets, and other devices to support USB-C charging by 2024. This way, users can use any charger they wish to charge their iPhones whether the manufacturer is Apple or not. The same Type C USB charger can be used on all Apple devices- iPhones, iPads, AirPods, and MacBooks. Thus, this legislation aims for a more sustainable future by supporting the re-use of chargers by all Apple devices and spontaneously reducing e-waste.
